Outdoor Advertising Banner Industry in Egypt

According to the CEO of Dubai-based Hills Advertising, the outdoor advertising banner market in Egypt was crippled by the wave of protests and regime change that swept the country recently. When Egyptian protestors destroyed an outdoor banner of an American multinational company in protest against Hosni Mubarak's rule in Tahrir Square, CEO Sami Al Mufleh knew there would be trouble for his firm.
He said that outdoor signs are a favorite target of protestors, but this is not the only problem facing the industry in Egypt. Because there are no authorities to grant licenses for outdoor advertising today, they cannot be guaranteed that signs will be licensed or not. Without clear licensing protection, companies hesitate to invest in signs that could be removed by competitors with no avenue for legal recourse. Fortunately for Hills Advertising, Egypt remains a small market share for the company which also does business in UAE, Jordan and Europe.
